Beach Essentials

In most parts of the country, but especially here in San Francisco, we have finally bid farewell to storm season and the temperatures are beginning to rise. So, being the native Californians we are, you know what that means. Yep, we’re headed to the beach. Whether we’re jetting over to Baker Beach to soak in the sun and views of the Golden Gate Bridge or taking a weekend getaway to Southern California, there are a few things we have to add to our beach bags before we put on our two-pieces and flip flops. Here are a few of our beach essentials you might want to consider adding to your summer duffel this season.

For starters we’re going to update our beach bag. What makes the perfect beach bag? We think it has to be spacious, have plenty of compartments for the essentials like a change of clothes, shoes and plenty of sun tan oil and lotion. We’re looking for a bag with durable materials like canvas that can be equally stylish but won’t tarnish in the water or sand. We’re also shopping for prints and colors that are complementary to our bikinis and cover ups too of course. Look for a beach bag that can also double as a cooler so the cocktails and White Claws stay nice and chilled.

So, what are we actually putting in our bags this summer? Well, let’s talk about SPF and things of that sort. This summer we’re strictly shopping for clean brands that are free of toxic chemicals such as oxybenzone and benzophenone, which are basically hormone disruptors and two main ingredients you want to avoid in sunscreens. We’re really into mineral sunscreens which are basically like skincare and SPF all in one and of course sunscreens that don’t leave an unattractive white cast so think gel SPFs for this one.

This summer in addition to a good SPF, we’re also including a good cover up for our beach bag. Not only are they good for when you’re lounging on the shore but they are also good to protect your body from the harmful UV rays after you’ve finished your tanning sesh. A stylish cover-up is a versatile accessory that can also take you from the beach to the bar. Look for a cover-up made from lightweight, breathable fabric like cotton or linen, with a fun print or pattern that complements your swimsuit (and beach bag). Consider getting a cover-up that doubles as a dress or skirt, so you can wear it out to dinner or other activities.

Finally, don’t forget your sandals. Comfortable and stylish sandals are a must-have for any beach vacation. Look for a pair that is waterproof and easy to slip on and off, so you can easily transition from the sand to the boardwalk. Choose a fun color or print that complements your swimsuit and cover-up.This summer season we’re really into the minimalist style of sandal and looking forward to leaving the chunky “ugly” sandal in 2022. Sleek thong sandals (no, not flip flops) in neutral color palettes that match with every look as well as strappy flat sandals that have fun with calf grazing details.

So, packing stylish beach accessories can make your beach vacation even more enjoyable. From cover ups to sandals, be sure to pack all the essentials for a fashionable and functional beach getaway. With the right accessories, you can relax, soak up the sun, and look your best all summer long.
