One Dress, 3 Ways To Wear
The capsule wardrobe has become the newest thing in fashion. It’s basically taking your closet and reducing it down to about 20-40 pieces that can all be interchangeably worn together to create many fabulous outfits. Building a wardrobe that consists of great staple items and a few great statement pieces can be really beneficial when creating your capsule wardrobe. We actually have a whole article written about creating a capsule wardrobe if you’re interested in building one but for today we want to get a bit more specific and show how you can take one simple item from your capsule collection and style it three different ways.
We think that taking a dress from your wardrobe is a great place to start. You may not realize it at first, but a dress is a great building point for creating three chic outfits that can all be worn within the same week. With the help of a couple other garments added here and there you can transform a simple maxi dress into three different looks which are all equally as stylish as the next. Our dress of choice for this little experiment/demonstration is this Sleeveless Dress with Drape from Johnathan Cohen. It’s a black and floral maxi dress with a relaxed silhouette and will serve as our base for building our three outfits. The accent colors are white, blue and gray which we think are perfect for matching with the other items in our capsule wardrobe.
LOOK # 1
For our first styled look we’re taking the obvious direct approach to styling this dress. We’re going to pair this dress with our Elie Saab Leather Jacket for a nice high-low contrast to make this dress an appropriate option for a casual day look. To complement our leather grunge component we’re choosing this pair of Aquazzura Saint Honore Combat Booties. This leather jacket and combat boots are other items from our capsule wardrobe and are great basics made with great quality that we regularly can incorporate into our everyday style and we love these pieces with this dress.

LOOK #2
Now we’re going to have some fun. We’re going to turn this dress into a chic maxi skirt by simply layering another top over it. This Altuzarra Meriel Top is a crisp white cotton t-shirt but with a bit of a remix to it with an overlay bralette and waist tie to really cinch that waist. Layering this over the dress, with its slightly longer fit, gives our dress (now skirt) a lovely feminine silhouette. Our once maxi dress is now a chic maxi skirt and we’re pairing it with these Whitney Flat Boots from Aquazzura.
These knee-high camel tone boots make this outfit feel lighter and more airy and pair really well with the white shirt and white accents in our dress. If you wanted to take this look another step further and layer yet another element
LOOK #3
For our final look of the week using the same dress, we want to style this dress for a night out. Whether grabbing drinks with friends or dinner with that special someone, you can certainly style this dress for a more fancy evening. Relying on layering yet again, we’re taking this Elie Saab Jersey and Feather Top and instead of wearing it over our dress, we’re going to slip it under. This black top will almost appear seamless and as if it’s actually an extension of our gown. The feather cuffs add further glam and when paired with this pair of Aquazzura Uptown Pumps, which are another pair of shoes we own in our capsule collection, we think you have the perfect third look for a night on the town.
