Our Take On Luxury Foundations

We’ve given our take on luxury makeup under $30 but now we want to take a crack at the real power players. Is the luxury foundation really worth the hype? Is it really better than the drugstore brands and if they are what makes them so much better? Is it the ingredients? The packaging? There has to be a reason that luxury foundations cost more and seem so much more alluring and glamorous than their drugstore counterparts. We decided to explore a few luxury foundations and take a look at their ingredients and what exactly they have to offer that is so, well, luxurious. Style Sonata investigates...

Cle de Peau Beaute Radiant Foundation

This Radiant Fluid Foundation Matte SPF 20 from Cle de Peau Beauty smoothies pores and blurs imperfections while providing SPF 20 at the same time. Which we love, we absolutely love when a foundation does double duty and adds SPF to their formula. If you like a matte finish, then this is a great option but our only negative when it comes to this product is that it doesn’t come in a wide variety of shades so it’s range for different skin types is very limited.

La Mer Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation

La Mer is notoriously famous for their moisturizer that harnesses the power of sea kelp for ageless skin. So, of course we had to look into their foundation. The good news is that this foundation is considerably cheaper than their infamous moisturizer. What we love about this product is that it’s utterly weightless on your skin and it feels as if there’s nothing on your face. It has a natural, beautiful finish and lasts all day with or without setting powder or spray. Plus, it's formulated with SPF 20 and you already know how we feel about that.

Makeup Forever HD Foundation

We hadn’t done too much research on the HD Foundation from Makeup Forever until we started this little investigation. We have however, heard the raves and reviews on our social media feeds so we had to take a look for ourselves. What we found was that its natural finish and buildable coverage and perfect color match were all tens across the board. However, its formula is a bit runny so a little bit does go a long way. We recommend setting this with the Makeup Forever Setting Powder to hold your look all day.

So, do we think that these luxury foundations hold up against our drugstore options? There’s certainly some perks to the ingredients used and the overall finish that these products provide. We love that most of these products use SPF in their formula and all of them provide additional skincare benefits in their ingredients. Still not sure for yourself? We suggest checking out our other article Foundations Can Be Prickly to decide for yourself.
