Styling Sneakers And Dresses

This post is for the girls who would rather ditch their heels for their sneakers. If this sounds like you then you’re going to want to continue scrolling because today we’re talking about how to master that high-low style of pairing sneakers with a dress. We’ve all seen that one cool girl who seems to look absolutely effortless as she wears her Stan Smiths or Nikes with a chic maxi dress or cocktail mini and we want to be more like her.

We want to channel Naomi Campbell and her Off-White sneakers sauntering down the runway or even Dakota Johnson running to Erewhon to grab a smoothie. If you think this look is hard to master, then you’re mistaken because it’s actually one of the more chicer looks that’s easy to pull off. Most likely you already own a dress and a pair of sneakers so really we’re just here to share our favorite ways to style this look and our inspiration for doing so.

Really when it comes to styling this combo, anything goes. It’s the perfect marriage of comfort and style and is appropriate for any season. We think one of the best ways to approach this look is to do a bit of color coordinating. They always say it’s a good idea to match your purse with your shoes and we’re taking a cue from that but instead finding patterns and colors that match our dress with our footwear. We really like the idea of sneakers and a dress for everyday street style but it’s also a great look for travel, a late night out on the town and even for a wedding guest look.

For our first way to style sneakers and a dress we’re going with this Daily Ritual Women’s Lightweight Jersey Tank Mini Dress in black and pairing it with these Possessions Sneakers from Steve Madden. Since this dress is a basic black style we wanted to add a pop of color and we love this neon green accent in these sneakers but the black detailing really ties the whole look together in the end.

This Corset Tee Dress from Theory is a tapered-at-the-waist dress that highlights your legs and cinches the body in all the right places. We’re styling this dress in the color “Cream Ecru” with this pair of New Balance Women’s 574 Core Sneakers in the colors “Nimbus Cloud/White.” Basically, it’s a tone on tone sneaker using gray, beige and white as their color pattern and it pairs perfectly with this crisp, ivory dress from Theory. We want to choose sneakers that accent our dress nicely and don’t make us look like we work at a hospital.

For a “night out” look but with a comfortable twist we would go with something like this from Norma Kamali. This Diana Mini Cocktail Dress is a short, one shoulder cocktail dress in this amazing, fiery tone of red. We’re pairing this mini with these Nike Women’s Air Force 1 Low Essential Sneakers. The shape is the typical Air Force 1 style in the classic white but with a twist; the Nike swoop is a gorgeous shade of red that nicely complements our cocktail dress. A gold accent “mini swoop” also adds a bit of glam and helps to keep our comfy combo looking chic.

For a maxi dress moment, we love this cottage style dress from Staud. The Women’s Vincent Dress is fulfilling all of our “cottage core” obsessions and we’re about to give it a major twist and upgrade with these Converse Run Star Platform Trainers in the color Orange. These rubber gum soled platform Converses take this cottage dress from sweet to edgy in seconds and we really like the contrast between this feminine silhouette and masculine footwear choice. Ready to ditch the heels and lace up some sneakers instead?
