This Controversial Shoe Trend is Back

Have you heard? Heard what Bunny? That the Gladiator sandal is back, duh! Yes, this 2000s trend is back and it’s back with a vengeance but is it back to stay? I guess it’s too soon to tell but for the time being I’ve been trying to decide how I feel about this trend. Part of me thinks that anything can be styled (if it’s styled well), to look a certain way and that can either be pleasing or revolting. When it comes to this sandal, I don’t know how I feel about it. It reminds me a lot of early 2000s - mid 2000s festival wear. You know, flower crowns and arm bangles and so on and so forth. It makes me ask the question of how we would style these today with the trends that we currently subscribe to?

We have the classic gladiator style shoe like this pair of Play Studded Sandals from ASH which are studded and very very strappy. I keep getting flashbacks of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie strutting the downtown LA streets wearing this exact pair, but correct me if I’m wrong.

But then we have these Lana Strappy Sandals from Black Suede Studio that are a more modern, contemporary take on the silhouette. Now, this I can get behind. It’s more elevated and sophisticated and refined even. I’m sticking to my original statement and saying that I won't rule them out completely until I’ve seen them styled in a way that I agree with. What do you think of the gladiator trend? Nay or stay? Let me know what you think.
