What We’ve Been Up To…

Sometimes when change happens, it happens very quickly. It felt like this last year dragged on and on and that there was no light at the end of the Covid-19 tunnel. However, vaccines were rolled out and here we are going to our favorite restaurants and bars again. We decided to check in with our editor Bunny Fayne and writer Kailyn Chadwick to see how they have been taking advantage of the many lifted Covid restrictions.

How do you both feel about things reopening again?

Bunny: Well, I don’t know about you Kailyn but I feel so relieved. I feel like everyone at some point felt some variation of panic or restlessness but it was beginning to feel impossible at times! Basically stir-craziness multiplied by infinity. I didn’t realize how important socialization and human interaction was until quarantine. With everything reopening I can’t wait to visit my favorite spots in the Bay Area for entertainment and otherwise.

Kailyn: Oh no I totally agree with that sentiment. I definitely felt the absence of friends and loved ones. For me personally, I missed the little things like walking into a Starbucks or getting a manicure (HA!) Waking up every morning and seeing the statistics of fatalities also freaked me out. I am rejoicing in the fact that I can go sit at a restaurant or go to my favorite rooftop bar in San Francisco. I’m so happy is all I keep saying.

So what is something you’ve done since things have somewhat reopened?

Bunny: One thing that I have done that I previously took for granted was to go hiking. A lot of the trails had closed to the public but they’ve since been reopened with mask mandates of course and social distancing but it feels so good to be out in nature with a friend or even with my husband. It reminded me how to appreciate nature, and the simple things in this life. Just being able to head to my favorite trail which is probably the Lands’ End Trail by Ocean Beach, is so great. It's also great because you can feel the energy of the other people on the trail. We’re all out here and we all “made it out” to the other side of this crazy pandemic.

Kailyn: You know Bunny I am not one for the outdoors but the way you described that experience even makes me want to go for a hike! Haha!

Bunny: Well one day we have to hit the trail together.

Kailyn: One thing I took for granted was also museums. I went to the De Young Museum a few weeks ago with a friend to see the Picasso/Calder exhibit. I also felt the collective sensation of “we all made it!” It felt so good to be around others just appreciating art and experiencing culture like I would always to pre-Covid. I was able to get dressed up and wear things I had ordered online during Covid that I was finally able to wear out on the town. It was interesting to observe others out in the world...almost like that was an exhibit in itself.

What’s something you look forward to doing?

Bunny: I love to entertain friends and family so I’m looking forward to hosting a dinner party or barbecue in my own home with those who have been vaccinated. It’s such a simple idea of something to do but for so long I would only see one person at a time and at a social distance so I can’t wait to actually have more than just two people gather at my house but rather all of my collective loved ones get together. We don’t even have to celebrate anything! Only the fact that we’re all together. Kailyn, you better RSVP that you’re coming too (haha!)

Kailyn: Of course Bunny...what should I bring?? Haha. I look forward to something similar. Being a Leo I love to entertain as well and to be the life of the party so I’m looking forward to hosting a birthday party this year for friends and family who have also been vaccinated. Losing those celebrations this last year was tough but I will appreciate them so much more this year.

Bunny: So well said and so true.

What are you all up to now that things are reopening? Are you celebrating in nature like Bunny or revelling in museums like Kailyn? This newfound freedom has infinite options for a good time. Happy reopening!
