Knee Deep
After years of choosing between minis and midis, fashion is finally paying attention to the hemline in the middle.
Knee-length skirts are returning, but this time they feel less corporate and much more interesting. The newest versions come in satin, leather, wool and embellished fabrics, with shapes that skim rather than squeeze. Think softly structured, slightly A-line and easy enough to move in.
The styling is what keeps them from feeling too traditional. Try one with an oversized shirt, relaxed knit or utility jacket instead of a fitted blazer. Then finish with substantial shoes—brogues, chunky pumps or sleek boots—to give the feminine silhouette a little weight and attitude.
And don’t be afraid of contrast. A polished satin skirt looks cooler with a crisp cotton shirt, while a tailored wool version becomes more relaxed with an intentionally oversized sweater.
Not quite mini, not quite midi and definitely not boring—the knee-length skirt has found its way back into the conversation.
